Mobile payments

We were looking around and we saw that some cities are implementing mobile payment systems for their urban transportation networks… I asked myself: Does it really make a sense to deliver mobile payment systems for an urban transportation network (MPS4UTN)?

First of all: We believe that it makes a sense to deliver only needed and wanted systems which are useful for its users.

So, let’s look at MPS4UTN…

Who is going to use it?

Students! (They are crazy about new mobile stuff, it is very cool!) We don’t think so, since they have students traveling cards…
Normal people! (It is very good to pay with handy… or?) Hm… Normal people have month cards like “IsarCard” or something similar because it is much cheaper
Businessmen? (Normally they drive BMW7 series)
Maybe people that have no money at the moment? Ok, if they have no money where is guaranty that they have mobile phone?

I don’t really know who may be interested in MPS4UTN…

Does it have advantages compare to good old fashion paper tickets (p-tickets)?

Price of usage? Not. People have to pay for GPRS or SMS or MMS, minimum 0,15 Euro.
Faster to buy an e-ticket than a p-ticket? I don’t believe.
Easy to check the e-ticket? Aha… In a full S-Bahn… In rush hours…

And worst of all you cannot get a lucky paper ticket! No fun

Ok, now I don’t want to write about MPS4UTN anymore.

Maybe I am wrong? Please, correct me if so.

QWERTY and Unicode support

Now HFP supports QWERTY keyboards and Unicode characters!

QWERTY support works in the following way:

If user has normal 0-9 keyboard, type-ahead functionality works exactly the same way like it was before: when user presses repeatable on the same key type-ahead field replies with corresponding char from associated char-set.
If user has QWERTY keyboard (Nokia E61, Nokia E62, Nokia 9500 etc) it works like you expect.

Now we need some brave and smart beta-testers to test new version with QWERTY support before it go to production. Please remember that it installs only via OTA (over-the-air / GPRS).
